Deep Belief
Bread & Light for Children Foundation is rooted in our faith in YAHWEH and Yeshua the Messiah. Our faith inspires us to serve children, youth and families with compassion, dignity and respect through practical assistance, education, health support and voluntary faith-based activities. We believe faith should be demonstrated through both words and actions. While our religious activities are an important part of our purpose, humanitarian assistance is provided based on need and is never conditional on participation in prayer, worship, religious instruction or other faith activities.
The Story
Bread & Light for Children Foundation was founded in Canada in 2026 by Marcela Brodie and Rigbe Gebreselassie, two immigrant women, nurses and educators who are deeply grateful to call Canada home.
Marcela was born in Colombia and Rigbe in Ethiopia. Their journeys to Canada, together with their years of experience in nursing and education, shaped a shared desire to give back and help children and families facing poverty, hardship and barriers to education and health.
With a deep love for Canada and strong connections to the countries where their stories began, they envisioned Bread & Light as a way to serve here at home and internationally.
Guided by their faith in YAHWEH and Yeshua the Messiah, they created Bread & Light to turn compassion into practical action—helping meet basic needs, supporting education and health, and bringing hope and dignity to children and families.
Bread & Light serves based on need. Humanitarian assistance is never conditional on participation in religious activities.

We are committed to transparency and responsible stewardship as we manage funds and resources for poverty relief, education, health and faith-based activities.
Board of Directors
Bread & Light for Children Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors responsible for overseeing the Foundation’s mission, activities, finances and resources.
Accountability Measures
We are committed to responsible stewardship, appropriate financial oversight and maintaining books and records in Canada. Funds and resources will be used to further the Foundation’s purposes and approved activities, with appropriate oversight by the Board of Directors.
Legal Status
Bread & Light for Children Foundation is a federally incorporated Canadian not-for-profit organization, incorporated on September 14, 2026. Its Articles were amended effective September 16, 2026. The Foundation is preparing its application for registration as a charity with the Canada Revenue Agency.
Bread & Light for Children Foundation is not currently a registered charity and is not currently issuing official charitable donation receipts.

Our planned work includes relief of poverty through necessities of life and simple amenities; educational programs, tutoring, educational materials, school supplies, scholarships and bursaries; health education, health-related supplies and access to health services; and voluntary religious instruction, teaching, worship and missionary activities. We are committed to serving children, youth and families experiencing poverty, hardship and vulnerability with compassion, dignity and transparency. Humanitarian assistance is provided based on need and is never conditional on participation in religious activities.
